Retake the balance test

Holding onto something gives your balance system another reference point, and means your score doesn't accurately show your fall risk. Retake the test without holding onto anything for an accurate score. Below are some tips to make sure you are following the balance test protocol.

*If you cannot do the test without holding onto something, this means you are at high risk of falling. Tell your doctor you cannot stand up unsupported for 1 minute and ask for help to work on your balance.

Balance Test Protocol Tips

  1. Place the scale on a hard level floor with all 4 feet firmly on the ground. The scale cannot be on carpet.

2. Make sure you are in a well-light, distraction-free area.

Tip: If possible place the scale away from windows.

3. Ensure you are focused on standing still when you retake the test. This includes your fingers, eyes, and face!
