First Thing, Last Thing

First Thing in the Morning:

If you score lower first thing in the morning, perhaps you are still feeling groggy.  Feeling groggy means your nervous system might not be as sharp as it will be later in the day. Groggy neurons are slower and that means groggy balance. How long does it take you to shake off the groggy balance? 2 minutes?  5 minutes? 10+ minutes?

If your score was best in the morning, then you must be relaxed. Being relaxed helps your body provide the best balance to you.

Last Thing at Night:

If you score lower before going to bed perhaps you are fatigued from a long day. Alcohol in the evening can also impair your balance as you get ready to end your day. Your body needs rest to keep you safe throughout the next day.

If your score was best before going to bed, ask yourself, did you have an amazing day? Did you give your balance a boost with training today?

Check your balance at the same times again tomorrow and the next day. See if they are constant or depend on the day’s routine. The first step to improving your balance is to understand your baseline and balance patterns.
